Love to Light is a place to learn, brush up on or revisit your photography, lighting and post production skills.
Hi there, my name is Nick Kilford. Photography and digital imagery have been a big part of mylife for over 12 years now, not only as a creative (by actually making images) but also as a large format printing business owner who caters to photographers, artists and illustrators. I don’t consider myself to be a professional photographer (although some of my friends disagree) but rather an enthusiast who enjoys making images and uses artificial lighting (most of the time) to achieve the look I’m aiming for.
I created this website because I wanted to help other people get a better grasp on one of the fundamental aspects of photography, which is the use of light. This website is mostly about indoor (studio or not) and outdoor photography with the use of off-camera flash. Since post production is an inherent part of the image making process, this website will cover this topic as well, with tutorials and other tips and tricks.
I also wanted to have a place where I could document what I had learnt over the years in an organized fashion that was easy to access from anywhere. I would also like to consider my website as a two-way learning experience, not only to pass on the knowledge I have acquired during my journey but also a space where I can learn from my readers too.
Here’s what you can expect to find on this website:
— articles related to Lighting and photography in general
— articles related to post production
— Gear reviews
I also ask that if you enjoy or find my content useful, that you get involved within my site. I love to talk about photography and lighting and if you have anything interesting that you want to share or any opinions on the content I have created, please do speak up. I love feedback in every form.
About Nick
I am 39 years old, originally from Bristol, UK, but have been living in sunny Portugal for the best part of my life.
I started my own printing business at the age of 25 and have been an exclusive photographer at iStock since 2006. My images can also be found at Getty Images.
Photoshop has been one of my everyday tools for over a decade and I occasionally teach workshops privately, specially to photographers.
Why Love To Light?
There is actually a very simple explanation to why I chose Love To Light for my website name, which you have probably already guessed. The reason is that, although I do take pictures with only available (or ambient) light, what I really love doing is to use artificial light (mixed or not with ambient light) to create my images. I love to light.
If you ever need any feedback or support regarding your photography/lighting, I would be more than happy to connect. Simply leave your comments below posts or contact me via email. Don’t forget to visit my site regularly as I am always updating it with content that I know you will find interesting.
Thanks
Nick Kilford
